Fathers are the unsung heroes of every family. The quiet pillar of strength and support. It's hard to put into words the significant role that fathers play in shaping up our lives. We often tend to overlook the sacrifices that they make in order to raise us and mould us into the best version of ourselves.
How father's day came into being
It makes sense to dedicate a day to honour fathers, celebrate fatherhood and appreciate their influence on our society. Father's Day, celebrated annually on the third Sunday in June, traces down its inception to the early 20th century when it was first proposed by Sonora Dodd of Spokane, Washington in 1909. Her father, a civil war veteran, was a single parent who had single handedly raised six children. Father's Day was first celebrated in the Spokane YMCA on June 19, 1910. Slowly, it's popularity grew and it became a prominent cultural event across the globe.
