Ganesh Chaturthi, the festival dedicated to Lord Ganesha, is one of the biggest festivals celebrated in India. The day is observed as the birthday of Lord Ganesha.

It is an 11 day-long festival where people place the idol of Lord Ganesha in their homes or public places and worship him daily with all the rituals. At the conclusion of the festival, the idols are taken to a local river body with a huge procession and immersed in water which symbolises Ganesha's farewell to the people and homeward journey to his parents on Anant Chaturdashi.

According to Indian mythology, Goddess Parvati carved an idol of a boy out of sandalwood paste and breathed life into it, without the knowledge of her husband, Lord Shiva. So, when Ganesha denied Lord Shiva entry into his abode because Goddess Parvati was bathing inside, Shiva decapitated Ganesha's head in anger but when he saw Parvati heartbroken in grief as she came to know about this, Lord Shiva promised to bring the child back to life He instructed his followers to search for the head of the first living creature that is laying with its head facing North. However, they could only find a baby elephant's head. That is how Lord Ganesha came back to life with the head of an elephant. That is how Lord Ganesha was reincarnated.

Lord Ganesh is considered a symbol of wisdom, writing, travel, commerce, and good fortune. He is also called Gajanana, Gajadanta, and Vighnaharta. These are a few names among his 108 other titles.

To celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi, devotees bring home idols of Lord Ganesh to worship the deity, eat good food, enjoy with friends and family, and in the end, immerse the idols. Additionally, temples offer prayers and distribute sweets such as modaks because it is Lord Ganesh's favorite. The festival marks the birth of Lord Ganesh, the god of wisdom and prosperity. It falls in the Bhadrapada month of the Hindu calendar, which falls in August-September.
